About Convergence
I developed Convergence as an ongoing, freely accessible online project in Philosophical Speculative Fiction. It blends narrative exploration, creative writing, and reflections on human life and society.
At its heart is the idea of a collision between two worlds – our world and a parallel co-world – and the question of how people, systems, and identities might respond.
Concept and Approach
My project functions as an open interactive thought experiment - a space to read, think, play, and explore possibilities. I provide the framework, the structure of the Co-Universe, and the Story Seeds – short narrative fragments and thought-starters – giving readers a starting point for their own ideas, reflections, or stories.
There’s no set path, no outcome to reach, and no expectation to ‚get it right‘ – just space to wander, reflect, and imagine between what is and what could be.
You can browse, reflect, or leave your mark – or simply observe. All paths are equally valid.
The Starting Point
Imagine your apartment block beginning to change. Streets, houses, and parks start to blend with something unfamiliar – plants subtly unlike any you’ve seen before, buildings with subtly misplaced edges, a landscape quietly shifting in ways no one can fully explain. In Convergence, you’re invited to explore what it might mean when two realities overlap.
What rules still hold? Who decides how to live when familiar systems – electricity, water, communication – no longer behave as expected? How does everyday life adapt when the world itself becomes uncertain?
The Co-Universe: A world of measured progress
It exists in a period akin to the mid-19th century, where steam, pressure, and printed words define the pace of advancement. Its society values inquiry tempered by restraint – progress that honors both logic and uncertainty. Innovation is viewed as a dialogue between human intent and natural order. The people pursue understanding not to dominate their world, but to coexist with its deeper rhythms.
The civilization here stands at a pivotal stage of self-realization – a time defined by deliberate progress and the tempered application of knowledge. Its people have mastered, to various degrees, the laws of pressure, motion, sound, and they have built great presses that bind words to paper faster than any scribe could dream. Every new mechanism – whether it moves, records, or illuminates – is viewed not as a triumph over nature, but as a dialogue with it.
In the greater cities the air hums with the rhythm of engines and ink. In workshops and observatories, in gardens and crowded streets, invention and intuition move hand in hand.
Outside the larger cities, life unfolds at a different tempo. The more rural settlements follow a rhythm shaped by seasons, craft, and continuity rather than by steam or machinery. Workshops and small forges serve as quiet centers of invention, where ideas take form through patience and repetition.
Progress here is not slower – only steadier, woven into the patterns of daily life rather than declared by spectacle. Knowledge passes through conversation, observation, and long familiarity with the land, a form of understanding that values rhythm over haste, balance over brilliance, and adapts to change as one might learn to follow a new current in an old river.
Across this world, alternate human-adjacent populations live alongside humans as a natural and unquestioned part of everyday life. Cities and towns host a rich tapestry of forms and traditions, sometimes densely interwoven, sometimes more lightly scattered across rural landscapes. No life is considered more or less significant than another; all coexist with mutual respect, contributing to the shared rhythm and culture of the world. In every workshop, street, and forest clearing, the presence of others is simply part of the environment - unremarkable, yet endlessly fascinating.
Your crossing point into Convergence
Imagine a crossing point in your mind, leading from our familiar world into the setting of Convergence.
This crossing point functions as a threshold where observation meets imagination, where curiosity is the only requirement, and where the threads of the Co-Universe unfold at your own pace. Here, the hum of daily life softens, and the patterns of Convergence begin to take shape in your mind.
Take a moment, breathe, allow yourself to step into the world unfolding before you – and let the journey begin…
Invitation to Participate / Co-Create
Convergence is a place for shared imagination.
If a fragment, scenario, or idea sparks something in you, you are welcome to explore it in your own way. You may choose to share your reflections – writing, drawings, photos, or any creative response – using the tag: #BWPConvergenceNotes
This tag functions as an open constellation: every entry remains in its creator’s space, yet all are connected through the same signal.
There is no oversight, no ranking, no obligation.
Each contributor remains fully autonomous; the tag simply marks a space where ideas resonate, intersect, and coexist.
Other possible hashtags are: #BWPConvergence #PhilosophicalSpeculativeFiction #BetweenWorldsAndPages #BetweenWorldsAndPagesInteractiveThoughtExperiment
